What Is AutoGas?
AutoGas is the common name for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) when it is used as a fuel in internal combustion engines in vehicles as well as in stationary applications such as generators. AutoGas is the most accessible and cost effective alternative fuel. Driving an LPG vehicle is safe, easy and considerably cheaper than driving a petrol or diesel model. LPG also emits less CO2 and far less other emissions such as NOx.

What is involved in converting a vehicle to run on AutoGas LPG?
An LPG conversion results in a bi-fuel car that can run either LPG or petrol. A second, independent fuel system is added to the car for which a dedicated fuel tank is installed. The tank is usually fitted in the spare-wheel well or a cylindrical type fitted in the boot. Tanks are available in different sizes so loss of boot space can be kept at a minimum.

Our LPG conversion process consists of three separate phases. The under bonnet installation of the system mounted in the engine bay, followed by the switch/gauge mounted inside the car. Lastly, the the tank and filler is installed with the feed pipe linking the front to the rear. Tank sizes vary from car to car.

How safe are AutoGas engine systems?
The LPG AutoGas systems in today’s modern vehicles are designed to be very safe. They are safe in use, safe to repair, and safe in a vehicle accident situation. The steel LPG cylinder is stress-tested many times past its normal operating pressure prior to being installed.

What happens if an LPG converted vehicle is involved in an accident?
The LPG tank and fuel pipes are fitted with numerous safety devices. The gas flow will automatically stop if the pipes are damaged or the engine is not running. If the vehicle catches fire, the gas tank pressure is controlled via safely venting excess pressure which will prevent the tank from rupturing and causing further damage. Tanks are made of thick steel.

Will LPG AutoGas harm my engine?
No. AutoGas is a cleaner burning fuel that doesn’t contain acids or leave behind carbon deposits. It can, in fact, increase the life of the engine.

How do I fill up at an LPG station?
Filling up on LPG is just as easy as filling up on petrol or diesel. There’s a pump and a hose – just as you’d expect – and LPG is sold by the litre. Filling up with LPG is also incredibly safe. The pump makes sure that LPG doesn’t leak, and it’s impossible to add the wrong fuel.

Is it safe to have petrol and LPG tanks in the same car?
Yes – LPG cars are very safe. Your LPG tank has gone through a huge amount of tough testing – including pressure-testing and strength-testing. LPG tanks shut down the gas supply if you have an accident.

Will LPG shorten the life of my engine?
No, not if it converted properly. In fact, because LPG is a much cleaner fuel it is less likely to ‘gum up’ your engine or contaminate your engine oil. Years of experience shows that LPG actually extends the engine life of petrol cars.

Can you check my car before I switch to AutoGas?
Before your conversion, we request that you visit our premises for a no obligation consult to discuss tank sizes, tank location, filler location, switch/gauge location and other details for a successful conversion.
